Intake Paralegal or Veterans Law Specialist – Full Time, Temporary to Permanent Position

Position Summary
The Intake Paralegal or Veterans Law Specialist initiates, responds to and manages communications with appellants and prospective appellants regarding the Program processes, U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims processes, and non-program resources. The Intake person works with Case Management Attorneys and Veterans Law Specialists to establish information about the appellant’s case and qualification for placement within the Program and maintains files to record the interactions with veterans and appellants.
Job Specifications
- Paralegal certificate or degree preferred. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in administration, business or a related field.
- Two or more years of experience with intake and client communication within a law office or equivalent environment, specifically collecting information regarding clients’ cases and/or assessing client cases.
- Three or more years of experience with veterans law. Experience with the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims or Board of Veterans’ Appeals preferred.
- Experienced with case tracking within a law office or equivalent legal environment.
- Successful and innovative creation and/or modification of processes.
- Veteran Preferred. Military experience also an advantage.

They will have demonstrated skills and a track record of autonomy, high performance and sustained productivity to achieve desired results. They will be innovative, exceedingly well organized, professional and flexible and have the ability to think critically, prioritize, make decisions and offer proactive recommendations, information and solutions. They will approach situations with sense of practicality, humor and creativity.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access and computerized legal research.
